Message from the Chair

Dear fellow Shee Atiká shareholders,

As we move into fall, I’d like to reflect on the accomplishments of our company, celebrate the strength of our shareholder community, and look ahead to the opportunities that will continue to support Shee Atiká’s growth and future success.

We are especially proud of the continued growth of our cultural programs and offerings. One highlight this summer was hosting an Elders’ Lunch at the Salmon Tales area of Sheet'ká Rainforest Park. It was heartwarming to see our Sitka Native Education Program (SNEP) students participate by serving and honoring our Elders, helping strengthen the connections between generations.

Shee Atiká was also pleased to participate in Sitka Summerfest at the cruise terminal. Our team served reindeer hot dogs while the SNEP students welcomed and entertained guests and even helped with cooking and serving. We also hosted our first "Local Foods Contest", which featured many incredible entries. Given its success, we hope to bring the contest back next year. These events, along with many other activities throughout the summer, reflect our commitment to supporting our people, our children, and our community across Sitka.

As we look ahead, we are excited for the fall season and the planning sessions already underway. Together, we are working to make 2027 another successful year for Shee Atiká and our shareholders.

In Our Communities

Supporting Sitka Native Education Program (SNEP) Culture Camp

This June and July, youth participating in Supporting Sitka Native Education Program (SNEP) Culture Camp enjoyed catered lunches made possible through a collaborative effort between Sheet’ká Salmon Tales, led by our Indigenous Program Manager Angie Ketah, and the Shee Atiká Board of Directors. The meals featured salmon sourced from local fishermen and women, helping connect participants to the rich traditions and resources of Southeast Alaska.

The program was funded through a partnership in which Salmon Tales sponsored 50% of the cost with the remaining 50% covered through a Board contribution. This shared commitment helped provide nutritious lunches while supporting local harvesters and enhancing the camp experience for participants. We are grateful to Salmon Tales, our local fishing community, and everyone who helped make this opportunity possible.

Movers and Shakers

Selina Joy Kahklen

The impact of our scholarship program extends far beyond the classroom, helping shareholders pursue their goals, strengthen cultural connections, and give back to their communities. One recent example is Selina Joy Kahklen, who graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree, earning Magna Cum Laude honors with a 3.84 GPA.

As a retired military veteran attending school full time, Serena shared that scholarship support eased financial burdens and allowed her to focus on her education.

Selina recently earned her Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 3.84 GPA. Scholarship support helped cover educational expenses while also allowing her to reconnect with Alaska Native culture through Indigenous studies, Northwest Coast formline design, and Tlingit Ravenstail weaving. She credits the scholarship program with supporting far more than coursework, helping her strengthen her cultural identity and prepare for continued service through tribal leadership, Native veteran advocacy, and cultural work. Serena expressed her gratitude to shareholders for helping create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom and into the community.

“Earning honors later in life showed me that growth and achievement do not have an expiration date.” - Selina Joy Kahklen

Shee Atiká Named to Alaska Business Magazine’s Top 49ers List

Shee Atiká has reached an exciting milestone, earning its first-ever placement on the Alaska Business Top 49ers list, ranking #44 among Alaska-founded companies based on gross revenue. This recognition reflects the corporation’s continued growth and diversification while remaining focused on creating long-term value for its approximately 3,500 Alaska Native shareholders. President Tim Castro, Board Chair Steve Karpstein and Board members Brendan Desjardin and Jim Wilkins attended the Top 49ers event in recognition of this achievement and the collective efforts that made it possible.

Recognition on the Top 49ers list highlights the important role Alaska Native corporations play in the state’s economy. Through business growth and diversification, Shee Atiká continues to create opportunities that support shareholder benefits, cultural initiatives, and long-term economic sustainability.

Sheet'ká Salmon Tales hosted an Elders' Lunch at the Sheet'ká Rainforest Park (SRP) on Saturday, August 29th. The event was sponsored by the Board of Directors at the request of the Shareholder Relations Committee as a way to show our elders how precious they are to us. Our Indigenous Programs Manager Angie Ketah led the effort serving a total of 75 Elders, including 39 home deliveries.

The menu consisted of grilled sockeye salmon harvested by community members Devin Jones, Val Ozawa, Angie Ketah, and Tyler Young; black cod tips donated by the F/V El Tiburon and grilled by Tyler Young; smoked salmon bellies by Angie Ketah and Tyler Young; spruce tip oil made by Angie Ketah; rice, and corn.

We would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who helped make this event such a success.

  • Food Truck Operator, George Howard, did an excellent job handling a very busy grill.
  • Indigenous Programs Manager, Angie Ketah, plated the lunches
  • 2 SNEP students manned the bus shelter, greeted people and called the side-by-side when rides were needed.
  • Sheet'ká Rainforest Park Staff, Tyler Young drove the side-by-side.
  • Jenna Littlefield, SNEP staff, directed 7 SNEP students, and organized the serving of food on-site.
  • SAI staff, Kori Lindstrom and her Dad, Carl Lindstrom organized and made deliveries.
  • SNEP parent, Harry Bradley and his two kids made deliveries.

Despite it being a slightly rainy day, our shareholders still showed up, stayed and visited and we had smiles all around. The Elders really enjoyed the ride on the side-by-side, saying it was an adventure for them! Thank you to the Board, the Shareholder Relations Committee, all the staff and volunteers, the SNEP students, staff and parents who came to help out and especially the Elders who joined us for a meal at the Park or from the comfort of their homes.

SummerFest 2026

Shee Atiká and Sheet’ka Rainforest Park co-hosted tables in the SummerFest Market to talk to locals about general programs, tours options, and discounts for shareholders and locals. Sheet'ká Treetop Adventures also hosted an Epic Adventure Giveaway: 10 winners received two complimentary Treetop Adventure tickets during the 2026 season.

Sheet'ká Rainforest Park staff, George Howard and Tyler Young oversaw operations at the Salmon Tales hotdog cart. Thirteen SNEP students ran the cart, taking orders, processing payments and even manning the grill (all with supervision).

The Local Foods Contest was a celebration of local and Indigenous foods that encouraged community members to showcase their favorite recipes hosted by our Indigenous Programs Manager, Angie Ketah. It was open to all community members with entries including harvested berries, salmon and/or spruce tips. A number of the Shee Atiká team served as judges including our Chairman of the Board, Steve Karpstein and our President/CEO, Tim Castro.

Award Winners:

Best Overall Winner: Shareholder, Herb Didrickson - Salmonberry Pie

Best Traditional Winner: Shareholder, Charlotte Bernhardt - Bb's Salmon Spread

Most Innovative/Unique Winner: Patty Dick - Spruce Tip Honey.

The contest attracted attention from SummerFest attendees and passersby who stopped to watch the judging. Community members were able to observe the evaluation process and learn about local ingredients and recipes. After judging concluded, the public was invited to sample all the entries, which created a fun atmosphere filled with lots of smiles, laughter, conversation, and positive community engagement and the contest highlighted both traditional food knowledge and creative contemporary uses of local ingredients. Thank you to all the locals who submitted entries and congratulations to the winners!

Shee Atiká Accountant Kevin Moser - Mayor-Elect of Sitka, Alaska

Congratulations to Kevin Mosher!

Shee Atiká is proud to congratulate Kevin Mosher, our Accountant and longtime Sitka community leader, on his election as Mayor of Sitka.

Kevin joined Shee Atiká in 2011 as an Accounting Technician and was later promoted to Accountant. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, accountability, and teamwork. Beyond his role at Shee Atiká, Kevin has dedicated years to public service, serving three terms on the Sitka City Assembly after his initial election in 2018 and reelection in 2021 and 2024.

Kevin Mosher

A U.S. Coast Guard veteran who made Alaska his home after being stationed in Sitka aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Woodrush, Kevin has long exemplified leadership both professionally and in the community. His election as Mayor reflects his deep roots in Sitka and his unwavering commitment to its residents.

Congratulations, Kevin, on this well-deserved achievement. We are honored to have you as part of the Shee Atiká family and look forward to seeing the positive impact of your leadership in this new role.

“I am so grateful to have so much support from my Shee Atiká Family while serving as an Assembly member here in Sitka these past eight years. They have all been so very supportive! I am also very thankful for the full measure of support that Sitkans have given me in this election. I plan to continue to serve, in this new capacity as Mayor, in the same measure I have tried to do so far: dedication to service, kindness, respect, hard work, and teamwork. Together with the Assembly, staff, and community members, we can move forward to continue to make Sitka the wonderful place it is.”

2026 Shee Atiká Internship Program: Building Tomorrow’s Leaders

What started as a vision in mid-2024 became a reality in Summer 2026 as Shee Atiká launched its first official Summer Internship Program.

Designed to attract emerging talent, create employment pathways for Alaska Native shareholders and support Shee Atiká's business goals, this program reflects our commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders. Our recruitment efforts included posting opportunities on job boards and Shee Atiká company websites, promoting the program through shareholder newsletters, reaching out to shareholder students receiving scholarship support, and partnering with organizations such as Sealaska and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) to connect with talented students and recent graduates.

The 10-week internship ran from June 1 through August 7, 2026, and provided interns with hands-on experience, mentorship, networking opportunities, work shadowing, training workshops, and meaningful project assignments across the Shee Atiká family of companies. Interns worked alongside experienced professionals, gained real-world skills, and explored potential career paths while contributing to important business initiatives.

As we look ahead to future internship classes, we encourage students and recent graduates, especially Alaska Native shareholders and descendants, to apply. Recruitment begins soon, with applications accepted from October through January 31, 2027. We are excited to continue growing this program and creating opportunities that strengthen both our workforce and our communities.

Visit our internship website for more information.
