Message from the Chair

As we look ahead to the close of the year, it’s a meaningful time to recognize the ways we’ve come together—both as a corporation and as a community. The Shee Atiká Board of Directors has been proud to represent our shareholders at important gatherings this fall, carrying forward the values and perspectives that guide our work.

In late October, we look forward to several members of our Board attending the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, the largest annual gathering of Alaska Natives. AFN continues to be an important forum for sharing ideas, advocating for our people, and strengthening relationships across the state.

In September, multiple Board members and our Chief Administrative Officer, Ptarmica Garnick, were invited to the Southeast Native Roundtable in Juneau, hosted by Sealaska and Tlingit & Haida. This event provided an opportunity for Alaska Native leaders to discuss key issues facing our communities, share best practices, and work together toward solutions that will benefit our shareholders and future generations.

Additionally, Shee Atiká recently donated $5,000 to support flooding relief efforts in Western Alaska, helping communities recover from the devastating storms that impacted the region.

As we head into the final months of the year, I am grateful for the continued dedication of our Board, management, and shareholders. Together, we are positioning Shee Atiká for a strong future while honoring the values that connect us.

On behalf of the Board and staff at Shee Atiká, thank you for your continued engagement, ideas, and support. Your voice matters, and your involvement shapes our future.

James (Jim) Wilkins

James “Jim” Wilkins was born and raised in Sitka, the son of Connie (See) and Robert Wilkins. His mother was adopted by Mary Marks of the Kiks.ádi (Raven-Frog) clan, Se’e Hit (Clay House).

Jim graduated from Sitka High School in 1982 and went on to study business administration, specializing in restaurant management, as his family owned and operated the Safe Harbor Inn on Mt. Edgecumbe and the Harbor Inn in Sitka. He also attended the University of Alaska–Southeast in Sitka.

Jim has been a flight attendant with Alaska Airlines for more than 36 years, where he has also served in leadership roles on various committees with the flight attendant union, including contractual grievance, employee assistance, and professional standards. Earlier in his career, he worked as an auditor for Westmark Hotels at the former Westmark Shee Atiká and served as a contract negotiator for hotel employees and union members.

With decades of professional experience and deep roots in the Sitka community, Jim brings to the Board a strong belief in the fiduciary responsibility of directors to ensure Shee Atiká remains financially sound and culturally strong. He is committed to stabilizing the corporation’s future, honoring the legacy of ancestors, and ensuring fair representation and a strong voice for shareholders today and for generations to come.

As a Board member, Kim contributes a business-focused perspective rooted in planning, governance, and sustainable growth. He is committed to listening to shareholders, honoring community values, and helping guide Shee Atiká toward profitable, resilient growth that benefits current shareholders and future generations alike.

Save the Date! 2026 Annual Meeting of Shareholders

In the months leading up to the Annual Meeting, we will host three Shareholder Information Meetings in Juneau, Sitka, and Seattle. These gatherings are a great opportunity to hear updates on operations, listen to speeches from candidates running for election, and update your shareholder information.

This year, we will also be issuing new shareholder ID cards. Please plan to attend one of the meetings to receive yours. For those unable to attend in person, the Sitka meeting will be live-streamed on May 16, allowing you to participate virtually.

If you can’t attend a meeting but would like a new shareholder ID card, you can contact the office this spring to request that one be printed and mailed to you once you are registered in our shareholder portal.

Finally, our Annual Meeting in Anchorage will also be live-streamed, ensuring all shareholders can participate, whether attending in person or watching from afar.

We look forward to seeing you—and hearing from you—this spring and summer as we gather to celebrate progress, community, and connection.

In Our Communities

Sheet'ká Rainforest Park End of Season Celebration

Our 2025 season came to a joyful close on Saturday, September 27, as the community gathered at Sheet’ká Rainforest Park for a free celebration filled with laughter, music, and memories.

Friends, families, and visitors joined us for a fun afternoon of live music, dancing, games for the kids, and delicious lunch bowls from our new Salmon Tales food trailer — a clear fan favorite! Guests also enjoyed free Sheet’ká Treetop Adventure Tours — a perfect way to experience one last adventure of the season among the trees.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate another successful season at Sheet’ká Rainforest Park. Thank you for making this year one to remember — and we can’t wait to welcome you back next season!

The Sheet'ká Salmon Tales Experience

Craving a taste of the real Alaska? You’ll find it at Sheet’ká Salmon Tales, where every visit blends culture, flavor, and storytelling in the heart of the Tongass Rainforest.

Your experience begins with a guided walk through the rainforest, led by a local guide who shares stories of the land, the Lingít people, and the deep connections between salmon, ocean, and forest that have shaped life here for generations. The trail opens to a peaceful clearing by the sea, where a fresh-grilled wild salmon lunch awaits.

As eagles soar overhead and waves meet the shore, guests enjoy a relaxed, small-group gathering filled with laughter, learning, and genuine connection. It’s a memorable exchange that stays with you long after you’ve left — and offers a unique chance to become part of the Sheet’ká story.

Introducing The Sheet'ká Rainforest Park Brand

After thoughtful discussion about the park’s future, marketing strategies, and the growing recognition of Sheet’ká Treetop Adventures and Sheet’ká Salmon Tales, we’re excited to share a new, unified naming structure for our facilities and experiences.

Moving forward, our site will be known as Sheet’ká Rainforest Park — a name that brings all of our current and future tour products together under one recognizable and cohesive brand. The emphasis on “Sheet’ká” reflects our deep connection to this place and our commitment to creating experiences rooted in culture, nature, and adventure.

New and existing products will follow the naming format “Sheet’ká __________” (for example, Sheet’ká Treetop Adventures and Sheet’ká Salmon Tales) and will be featured under the parent site sheetkapark.com, with each product maintaining its own dedicated page and unique identity.

Our updated logos will share a consistent formline border style and “Sheet’ká” wordmark, creating a cohesive visual family while allowing each product to express its own story through distinct graphic elements.

Inside the park, signage will be simplified for ease of readability — you’ll see “Treetop Adventures,” “Salmon Tales,” and future experiences named in this same format.

This new structure helps us strengthen brand recognition, tie together our expanding suite of tour products, and give visitors a clear sense of the experiences that await at Sheet’ká Rainforest Park.

Where Do Our Shareholders Live?

Shee Atiká is proud to have shareholders living across Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. The chart below highlights the current breakdown of shareholders by state and community.

Unsurprisingly, Alaska remains home to the largest number of shareholders, with strong concentrations in Sitka, Juneau, and Anchorage. Significant shareholder communities also reside in Washington—particularly in Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma—and in Oregon, with representation in both Portland and Eugene.

This distribution reflects the continued growth and reach of our Shee Atiká community, connecting generations of shareholders from Alaska to the Lower 48 and around the world.

New Shee Atiká Office Hours

Special One-Time Distribution Dates

Shee Atiká Participates in Southeast Native Roundtable

Shee Atiká was proud to participate in the Southeast Native Roundtable held in Juneau and extends sincere thanks to Sealaska and Tlingit & Haida for cohosting such a meaningful and well-organized event.

For the first time in decades, leaders from Southeast Alaska’s tribes, Native corporations, and tribal organizations came together for a powerful two-day gathering focused on unity, collaboration, and shared purpose.

Representing Shee Atiká were Board Members Steve Karpstein (Chairman), Marcus Cogley (Secretary), Roxanne Drake-Burkhart, Jim Wilkins, and Kim Essendrup, along with Chief Administrative Officer Ptarmica Garnick.

The summit created a platform for renewed collaboration, strategic dialogue, and collective visioning around the most pressing issues facing our communities. Discussions centered on Unity & Shared Vision, Protecting Our Way of Life, and Investing in Our People, resulting in the identification of six key priority areas for regional cooperation.

Shee Atiká looks forward to continuing this important work and strengthening partnerships that honor our shared values and build a stronger future for Southeast Alaska.

Every Child Matters

On September 30, Shee Atiká employees and shareholders joined together in wearing orange shirts to honor and remember the thousands of Indigenous children who were taken from their families and sent to residential schools.

Every Child Matters is a time to reflect, to acknowledge the children who never returned home, and to stand in solidarity with the survivors, their families, and their descendants.

At Shee Atiká, we proudly take part in this day of remembrance and awareness — reaffirming our commitment to truth, healing, and the protection of future generations.
