There is typically one scholarship application deadline per year, which was Friday, March 13, 2020. However, due to the impacts COVID-19 may have on our shareholders’ lives and knowing that education can make a difference, the Board (based on a recommendation by the Scholarship Committee) added a second deadline for the 2020/2021 academic year: Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 4:30pm, Alaska time.
Additionally, the Board decided to increase the scholarship budget for 2020 and increase the annual award amount for the 2020/2021 academic year (which runs from 8/1/20-7/31/21) by an additional $1,000 for every full-time student. This increase will be automatically applied to those students who applied and were approved for funding after the March 13th deadline. If you were already awarded a 2020/2021 scholarship in the amount of $2,400, your award amount will increase to $3,400. Those students who apply and are approved after the June 6th deadline will also be eligible for the increased annual award amount. The additional $1,000 will be pro-rated for part-time students based on credits.
If you are interested in taking classes for the 2020/2021 academic year, you will need to submit your complete application by the new deadline of Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 4:30pm, Alaska time. Applicants may be awarded up to $3,400 per academic year for the purpose of earning an academic degree, a vocational certificate or attending a program/class that advances the cause of Native culture.
