Safeguarding the Legacy of Katlian Bay (Tl’ayaaḵ’)
Shee Atiká, Inc. proudly announces an important initiative to protect the cherished Katlian Bay lands (Tl’ayaaḵ’). The Shee Atiká Land Trust (SALT) is a proposed Alaska Native Settlement Trust designed to permanently safeguard approximately 3,000 acres of the Katlian Bay surface estate. This initiative aligns with our mission to preserve the cultural and environmental heritage of these lands for current and future generations.
Why SALT Matters
The Katlian Bay lands hold immense historical and cultural significance for the Tlingit people, known as Tl’ayaaḵ’. With a new state road bringing increased access to the area, Shee Atiká’s Board of Directors has made protecting these lands an absolute priority. Placing the lands in the SALT trust will shield them from sales, liens, and encumbrances, ensuring their legacy endures.
What’s Next?
To establish SALT, a majority of Shee Atiká shareholders must approve the proposal at the 2025 Annual Meeting in June. Shareholders will receive detailed proxy materials in April and are encouraged to attend informational meetings this spring to understand the full scope and benefits of the proposal.
This proposal reflects Shee Atiká’s ongoing commitment to preserving our cultural heritage, protecting our lands, and creating long-term value for our shareholders.
