Shee Atiká Announces Appointment of Marcus Cogley to Board of Directors
August 16, 2024
(Sitka, Alaska) – Shee Atiká is pleased to announce the appointment of shareholder Marcus Cogley to serve on its Board of Directors.
A former Shee Atiká Shareholder Relations Committee (SHRC) member and scholarship recipient, Cogley was appointed to the Shee Atiká Board of Directors, effective August 16, 2024. He fills a vacancy left by a board member who resigned for personal reasons. Cogley will serve until the Shee Atiká Annual Meeting of Shareholders in 2027.
“On behalf of Shee Atiká, we’re excited to welcome Marcus Cogley to our board of directors,” said Chairman Steve Karpstein. “This next generation of shareholders is the future of our corporation. Their involvement and experiences are key to helping us grow as a corporation and continuously find better ways to connect with all of our shareholders.”
During his tenure on the SHRC, Cogley successfully advocated for a dedicated youth position on the committee, expanded shareholder representation, and fostered intergenerational communication. Marcus holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is interested in continuing his education by studying the Tlingit language in the future.
“I was inspired by the transformative impact of receiving my first Shee Atiká scholarship in 2011. Since then, I have gained extensive experience in leadership through roles in education as a high school math teacher and university professor as well as a small business owner,” said Cogley. “It’s an honor to be able to give back to the corporation and Tlingit culture that has been provided for me and to serve the next generation.”
