Message from the Chair
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Sitka to celebrate Shee Atiká's 50th anniversary celebration on July 12 and attended the 50th Annual Meeting of Shareholders June 15.
This summer has been a time of great joy and celebration, but it has not been without its difficult moments for our shareholders and the Sitka community. We extend our sincere condolences to Luis "Chuck" Miller (Daanax.ils'eik’)'s family, friends, students, and acquaintances who recently passed away after a well-fought battle against cancer.
|
|
As keepers of the torch, we honor our heritage and pass down knowledge to future generations. At the 50th celebration, Chuck was awarded the Charlie Joseph, Sr. (Kaal.atk') Award, which is presented to a group or individual who strives to preserve the Tlingit lifestyle before Western man through their lived experiences or teaching others. Chuck's children and sister accepted the award on his behalf.

His recent service on the Shee Atiká Scholarship Committee reflects his passion about our youth pursuing higher education. All of us at Shee Atiká are grateful for his support, friendship, and lifelong dedication to our culture. He will be missed tremendously.
